Imagined after Paul Cézanne
A woman
After Paul Cézanne, made 2026-08-19. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have returned once more to the human figure, seeking what has eluded me through decades of Mont Sainte-Victoire and apples: to make of this living form something solid and durable, like the art of the museums. The woman before me is not an occasion for sentiment or anecdote, but a motif demanding the same patient realization as any landscape or still life.
I have tried to treat her form by means of the cylinder, the sphere, and the cone, as I advised Bernard—her head a sphere catching light, her torso and limbs constructed as interlocking volumes rather than contours. The planes of her dress and the space around her are built from the same touches of colour, warm ochres moving toward cool blues and greens, so that figure and ground weave together into one fabric. I have tilted the chair, shifted the viewpoint slightly as the eye moved, allowing multiple angles to coexist in a single, firm construction.
This is my slow, exhausting effort: to realize my sensation before the motif, to give this woman the architectural permanence I have sought in everything I paint.
