# Artist's Statement
I paint what stands before me. A good painter, as I testified in Rome, is one "who knows how to paint well and to imitate natural things well"—nothing more, nothing less. I have put Trump's head in my own hand because I know my own face in the mirror, and I know the weight of what it means to take a life, even in paint.
The composition is stark: a single figure emerging from near-total darkness, the lit arm thrusting the severed head toward you. I learned this vertical severity in my final years, when violence turned inward and every beheading became a meditation on guilt and mortality. The raking light from above does all the storytelling—it models the flesh with sculptural force, gives the blood its sheen, makes the opened neck a fact you cannot turn from.
I paint from the living model because only living things carry the truth of their own existence. This Trump I studied breathing, his jowls and hair rendered with the same tangibility I gave Holofernes or Goliath. The viewer must feel the physical act, the arrested instant before the head drops. Light reveals; darkness judges.
