Imagined after Hieronymus Bosch
Two men and a woman sharing ideas in a large room
After Hieronymus Bosch, made 2026-10-09. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have painted this gathering as it truly is: a garden of the mind where three souls exchange thoughts as freely as lovers pluck forbidden fruit. The large room swells around them like the panoramic landscapes of my triptychs, its space opening outward so the eye might wander endlessly among the ideas taking visible form. For what we share in conversation—our enthusiasms, our deceits, our half-formed certainties—these deserve the same scrutiny I have given to sin.
As always, I have worked rapidly, with "a lively underdrawing left visible beneath thin, fluent layers of paint," letting the sketch breathe through the surface rather than burying it under patient glazing. The woman and two men anchor the composition, yet around them I have scattered the hybrid creatures of thought itself: words sprouting legs, notions with wings, the small demons of ambition and pride that cling to every earnest debate.
My defenders rightly say I paint the inner sinfulness of humanity, not mere monsters. Here too, I hold up the mirror. Let the viewer see what invisible grotesques attend our most reasonable discourse—and perhaps smile at the recognition.
