Imagined after Hieronymus Bosch
A woman in stages
After Hieronymus Bosch, made 2026-07-30. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have painted a triptych showing a woman passing through the stations of her life, from maiden to mother to crone, each panel a mirror of the soul's journey through time and temptation. My purpose, as those who understand my work have said, is to paint "the inner sinfulness of humanity" — not monsters for their own sake, but the truth of what we carry within. Here, the woman moves through a landscape that changes with her: the left panel blooms with the deceptive pinks and greens of youth, the center darkens into the pressed, diagonal momentum of motherhood's burdens, and the right wing smoulders with the infernal orange and black of age and reckoning.
I work rapidly, letting my underdrawing show through thin, fluent layers of paint, so that the eye can wander endlessly among the small vignettes scattered across each stage — the temptations that swarm at the periphery, the hybrid creatures of vanity and regret that attend her at every turn. The panels are meant to be read together, yet each stands alone in its teeming, intricate density. Close the wings, and you will see her in grisaille, reduced to the clay from which she came.
