Imagined after Hieronymus Bosch
A painting of wall street detailing the 2008 banking crash starting in Iceland-
After Hieronymus Bosch, made 2026-08-02. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have painted the world's greed made visible: a great triptych whose central panel shows Wall Street as I would show Carnival or the Haywain—a teeming swarm of the avaricious all clambering upon a mountain of paper wealth, oblivious that it burns beneath them even as they climb. The left wing depicts Iceland, that distant island where the rot first broke through the surface, painted in cool greys and deceptive northern greens before the conflagration. The right wing shows the inferno that followed: cities dark, homes lost, the common folk cast into the flames while demons in fine suits slip away clutching their gold.
I work as always with rapid, economical strokes, the underdrawing visible beneath thin layers, for this vision came to me whole and urgent. The viewer's eye must wander endlessly among a thousand vignettes of folly—the bloated towers, the hybrid creatures of finance, half-man and half-machine, devouring one another. My purpose, as in all my work, is to mirror the inner sinfulness of humanity, to show not mere monsters but the soul's true face when seized by avarice. Let those who see it recognize themselves in this chaos.
