A golf course in the colorado prairie, after Albert Bierstadt

The statement

I have set out to capture the vast horizontal expanse of the Colorado prairie as it opens onto distant peaks, now occupied by a golf course whose manicured greens and water hazards echo the natural meadows and streams I sketched on my western expeditions. As I have always done, I worked rapidly in oil and pencil directly from nature during my time on the prairie, then combined and heightened these field studies into this monumental finished canvas produced in my studio. The composition follows my familiar structure: a detailed, sunlit foreground of fairway and carefully rendered turf draws the eye through layered atmospheric haze toward the luminous, snow-touched summits beyond.

I aim to convey the sublime scale and grandeur of this transformed landscape, assembling my observations into an idealized composite panorama built to overwhelm the eastern viewer with the magnificence of the West—even as civilization inscribes its own geometry upon it. Warm light pools on the sculpted greens while cool glazes push the mountains back into radiant distance. The golf course becomes a new kind of theater, a stage where splendor and human ambition meet under the same vast sky that has always defined these lands.
