The statement

# Artist's Statement

I have returned from the field once more with sketches that capture what I believe to be among the most commanding prospects of this western territory — a prospect I have now brought to completion in my studio as a finished canvas. As I have done with the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada, I have here assembled and heightened these studies to convey the sublime scale and grandeur that must overwhelm the eastern viewer if they are to comprehend what this land truly is.

The composition follows the structure I have refined across my major works: a detailed, sunlit foreground of ranch buildings and figures opens through layered atmospheric haze to distant peaks touched with snow and cool blue air. Warm afternoon light rakes across the near ground, while the far summits recede in luminous vapor. My aim is not mere topographical record but the communication of splendor and magnificence — the awe-inspiring beauty that this wilderness commands. I paint landscape as both art and enterprise, and I intend this canvas to stand as public spectacle, a window onto the vast, radiant theater of the American West.
