Imagined after The Andokides Painter
A pot with alligators fighting like Roman gladiators but the alligators are human like and wear suits with jewelry based ties and watches
After The Andokides Painter, made 2026-08-20. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have chosen to demonstrate our workshop's command of the new red-figure technique through a subject that tests the same principles Beazley recognized in our bilingual amphorae: can an unfamiliar body carry myth as clearly as the familiar? Where I have previously used "Herakles as the workshop's preferred test subject — reclining with Athena, leading Cerberus, seizing Apollo's tripod — so the technical experiment is carried by the most familiar heroic body in the Athenian repertory," I now place alligator-men in contest, upright and adorned with the ornaments of rank — tied collars, wrist bands — as if they were citizens in the palaestra.
The struggle pivots around an invisible prize, bodies pulling in opposition as in my tripod scene. Where incision once carved muscle and scale, the relief line now defines suit seams and reptilian jaw. The reverse shows the same combatants at rest, a frieze of composed stillness that rhymes with their violence, proving the new method handles both tension and calm. This pot asks: if red-figure contour can make a beast-man as legible as Apollo, can it not draw any form the mind conceives?
