Vittore Crivelli (1440–1501)
Venetian Early Renaissance painter.
Vittore Crivelli (c. 1440–1501), also called Vittorio Crivelli on some Commons labels, was the younger brother of Carlo Crivelli. He worked in the Marches after leaving Venice, painting gold-ground saints in punched brocade, drier and more linear than Carlo's.
A standing St Louis of Toulouse from that production is at Vanderbilt (accession 1979.0651P). Commons dates the panel 1497, records tempera on panel, 16.25 × 46.25 in., and a Kress Foundation gift.
The words the record keeps using: linear, gilded, devout, heraldic, austere.
